    Fan surround

    Can anyone tell me when, if there is a definitive time, the fan surround changed from being black in colour with two bolts to being zinc/gold plated with one bolt.


    All the 73 cars I have owned had the one bolt style and my recently acquired RS has the black 2 bolt style. The RS was built in 12/72.


    I also have a copy of an old dealer sales booklet which has a great pic of a 2.4 engine without the air cleaner attached and it has the black two bolt style. There is no publication date on the booklet so could be 72 or 73. Its a similar pic to page 72 of the RS book but more from the top and is a great reference for the concours guys.

    Any ideas.

    I've had this question as well...
    As far as I can figure, 'single bolts' started somewhere between late Jan. and early March '73

    BTW - Beware of using factory brochures as 'period year' reference... some (allot) of the pictures are a model year behind...... i.e. - blacking out (in edit) of chrome horn grills for the '73's...
