Thread: R-Gruppe goes Pop

  1. #1

    Thumbs down R-Gruppe goes Pop

    http://www.dupontregistry.com/search...-FFE4FCD95978}

It makes me want to cry ... ... I never thought the R Gruppe name would be used as a sales device.

And the DuPont registry? C'mon ...

    Maybe I'm just too idealistic?

Ive seen 'R-Gruppe type car' mentioned in eBay ads half a dozen times in the last year.

That car has potential. Typical Dupont Registry crack rock crazy asking price

I don't understand the statement in the ad "rear torsion bars modified for inside adjustment" Do they mean inside the cockpit? I have seen this before in other ads, and while I have heard of cockpit adjustable ARBs, I don't understand how you could make a torsion bar setup "inside adjustable". What are they talking about? Or are they just confusing sway bars and torsion bars?

We are seeing quite a few references to "R Gruppe" used to describe an early 911 in many publications, listings, etc. It reflects the wide interest in these wonderful cars, and the success the R Gruppe has had in communicating the "mission statement" for the organization. There are many Porsche oriented groups listed and registered, but the R Gruppe may have a more broad appeal, thus the use as a reference to describe a car for sale. It is the price for success in getting the message out.

Hey, good to see you here on the board Gib....er...I mean Rgrp#17 ..... I would have to agree with you on your reference to "the price of success..." I have noticed increasing references to "RGruppe" over the last 18 mos or so in different publications and on the 'net.

Seems like when people detect a good thing , they naturally want to be a part of it, if be it only in reference.

Noticed the coverage (i.e. feature articles) "Excellence" has been giving RGruppe cars over the last couple of issues...? Someone try to tell me this has been "just a fluke" or "coincidence".......

No a bad thing....just the ways things are ... I guess...

If I'm not mistaken, that's Mike Foster's (former) car that was for sale at Dunkel's, I know he sold it shorly after....... That car was for sale at Dunkels with original/correct Recaro "bucket" seats. Seemed to be a good "buy" at that time (much lower than this price....)

    regards,

Kinda OT for the thread, but I can see something similar to the old VW adjstable lowering device on the front axle torsion tube. It may not be adjustable on the fly, but ride height could be changed with a wrench without upsetting the corner balance.

Edit: I once cut the complete center out of the rear torsion tube. I could have put it back with an adjustment bar welded to it. The thing is, I am not clever enough to realize that I could have done such a thing. But, now I know it's possible.

Gib, very good point. I agree with you 100%.

I guess my concern stems from people using the R Gruppe in a way that undermines the integrity and good name of the group. Misrepresentation and misuse of a good name to boost a car's value ... that type of thing. (not saying that's what's happening here)

I mean, look what happened to Rock & Roll in the late 70s and 80s ...

It looks like a nice car, but something about the ad just makes me uneasy.
