Kardex, or COA could be wrong from Porsche

I just received 5 Kardexs from Porsche, also called a Certificate of Authenticity, and 3 of them did not seem correct. First, they did not list the transmission numbers on 2 of them. Second, on my 1973S, it listed rear wiper, (correct), wheel moldings, (correct), LSD, (correct), Porsche script on sides, (correct), tangerine color, (correct), engine serial number, (correct) black roofliner, NOT correct , it is white, and leatherette seats, Not correct, they are partial leather . I wrote an email to Barbara Kurz, who is the contact at Porsche in Georgia, and mentioned that the two previous owners stated that nothing had been changed on the car. (The car only has 26,500 original miles, and is 100% original). She responded that yes, I was correct, and there had been a mistake . She said my car was delivered with a white roofliner, and that is was delivered with partial leather seats. She said mistakes do happen once in a while. She is sending me a new correct COA . She also said it is common to get your COA with no transmission number listed. She said cars from the early 70"s for some reason had wrong or missing transmission numbers. Thought some of you might have had the same situation arise when applying for your COA. Thanks for the info. My trans number wasn't listed, and I have wondered about that.

When I first imported an early 911 from the US (1969 911E) I paid for a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) from Porsche Cars GB at a cost equivalent to $105 (!!) & when I received it there was a mistake with the engine number!

The number quoted by them was 2 less than the serial number of the actual engine fitted (they quoted 6291953 instead of 6291955) & when I queried it I was told that I was correct & that they had made a mistake !

I got the corrected CoA but it seems as though errors are quite common & not always picked up by the owners.

The Cardex on my '68 matches the car to a T, or in this case, to an "S". I also have one for my '59 Cab, and for interior color it states "Information not available". Probably one too many "ein bier, bitte" for lunch. I think these things were handwritten index cards in the early days; not a perfect system,
    but (usually) correct.

I have been able verify original transmission numbers and delivery dates on handfuls of both 1970 and 1971 911's that don't have a transmission number listed on the COA. Emailing directly to Porsche archives has been proven successful.
This makes me feel certain that archives has other documentation that ties in engine/transmission number combinations that are not listed on the Kartex. At the same time I have seen almost every 1970 and 1971 COA's with no transmission or delivery date information listed on them which also makes certain that when an owner orders a COA, Porsche does not internally reference other sources of information on file to fully complete the COA.
It will always be a fascinating mystery as to lies in the file cabinets in archives. All we can continue to do is try to reach out in different angles to see what we might find.
