Opinions - on this RS Book

I already have John Starkeys two books: "PORSCHE 911 R, RS, RSR" (4th ed.) and his newest "From R to GT3R".

I'm thinking it just might be a good addition to the libarary....a little pricey but hey....we're talking P-cars here

Actually I emailed Konradsheim a few months ago and he had some left for 180 EUR. Would have been worth it a few years ago. Not w/ this exchange rate!

A absolute if you're thinkin' about gettin' one; otherwise, not so sure old buddy....

They DO pop up on Ebay, which is where I bought 2 of them, around $180-$200.

I'm assuming that's the Gruber and Konradsheim book. I have number 647, and it's a pretty great book. It has the complete list of every RS built, which used to be a big selling point in the pre-internet days. Now that same information is available online.

But the history and documentation of the Carrera RS in it is probably as complete as you'll find anywhere. It's a great addition to a pre-74 library.

But if you're just interested in the information, you could borrow someone's copy, and spend a Saturday reading it. I'd be happy to loan you mine.

If you order it, make sure you get it in English.

Anyway I think this is the same book Rick Cabell let me look thru at Monterey '03....I was impressed by it.

I think the RS book is a must especially if you have a 'F' series car...

Example:

The production change timeline in the book for the RS is virtually the same for the rest of the 911's ... they shared the production line... so it tells you exactly when they did what...

Johnny - I bought my copy from Tag books a couple of years ago - got both the authors to sign the inside cover for me before they shipped it.

Georg (Konradsheim) is usually in the office at Tag but I don't know if Gruber is involved as well - if they haven't already shipped your book (knowing what they're like I doubt it yet!) it might be worth asking if you can get it signed.

You can get some basic information about each '73 RS, like chassis# and corresponding engine and transmission # along with the color. What you can't get online is where it was delivered, the interior options, all the option codes and any other special options that came on the cars. To provide those kinds of details, the authors were able to obtain copies of each production/conversion order for every Carrera RS. A very valuble tool for research.
