    unisyn vs. synchrometer

    I am going to need to balance my carbs. This will be a first. Which should I use ? Is one easier to deal with or more precise?

    I have never done this but I have heard the Synchrometer is easier to use and more repeatable.

    If you need one, I have one on my shelf for the 912 I used to own but never had a chance to tune (school bus vs car). I'd be glad to share. E-mail me privately.

    I agree w/Harry - The theory of operation of the Uni-Syn _ought_ to be more accurate but it just doesn't seem to be as repeatable.

    There are other ways to measure air flow BTW.

    You might want to hook up 4 U-tubes of water and build manometer bank. That's what the old Ferrarri mechanics did -- very impressive looking, and easy to read - you just scan across the line and if they are not lined up, you adjust.

    I should have an old vane anemometer around here somewhere and keep meaning to find it and hook it up.

    I also like the ease of use of the synchrometer, however, the rubber cone of my synchrometer does not fit down inside the velocity stacks. I have to press down on it so that it seals on the upper lip of the stacks. It still works but doesn't seem right. Maybe there is a model of synchrometer where the sealing cone sits down inside the stacks?
