A friend of mine, Bob Beasley, has some of the better Milt Minter stories I've ever heard. I'm almost afraid to tell one of them as it's so damned hilarious. Anyhow, I think I'll sit down with Bob next week and tape him so I don't miss anything in translation.
Some of you might remember Bob from the way back when days. He's as tough a nut now as he was then. Believe it or not at his advanced age he's racing motorcycles and I'm not talking about 125cc stuff either!
Former jet fighter pilot, he's never slowed down or minced words. He's was not a warm and fuzzy type before a race either.

Old and older? Hell you guys are unbelievable !
How about an issue of ESSES devoted to those stories and those of any other Hell-racers, past or present.
Has that been done ?

John,
We try to touch on it every once in a while... kind'a keep'n up the written, but mostly oral, history of these great guys ...
When me and my buds were just punks these were our local (and not so local) heroes that showed us just what was possible with a little bit of money and a TON of talent ...
In one of our ESSES issues I did recall something I was part of... A few years ago I was helping with a PCA drivers ed deal out at the Streets of Willow... we were fortunate enough to have both Milt Minter and Davey Jordan as instructors... They had competed against each other and liked each other back in the day and hadn't seen each other for years ... They found some time to catch up in the 'teaching blockhouse'... I passed these two gesticulating and laughing and ask "What'a you dudes do'n?"... Milt smiled and said "We're bench race'n"... then quickly added "AND I'M WINNING!!!"
These guys are STILL show'n us what's possible...
Today I'm go'n to a memorial service for Charley Thieriot (SoCal Alfa Club chief driving instructor for years) a driver my friend Hector and I pitted for in the 2.5 TransAm Challenge back in '72...
... and so it goes

That would be fun... a bit gossipy but fun.Originally Posted by John Fusco

It was told to me that in the late 70s Alan Johnson bought and raced Mark Donahue's IROC winning 911.
Back in the 70s at a track weekend at Holtville (90 minutes east of San Diego) a large group of Porsche owners were running at the track, Alan had his IROC car there too. Alan's wife was on the track driving Donhues IROC car. According to the story I was told she lost control of the IROC car went off track and hit 7 parked Porsches. The IROC car was fixed as best they could.
Women drivers!
I was thinking more about a "Legends of Motorsports (Early S members) " kind of thing. Some gossip would be O.K. Maybe I just need to start going to the events to hear it first hand. Still it would be good to see it in print with photos.
Sorry to hear about your friend Chuck.
