Need expert help on 356 question

As some of U know I like to visit the casinos once in awhile...well a couple times a week anyway.....Well sometimes when I leave them early in the morninig I get lost on the way home well today I passed a couple of early Porsches parked in a driveway. I just hope I can remember where they are?

One looked like a 1972/3 911 Targa...as it was under a cover I could not discern exactly what it was....

However the second car was a 356 Continental Coupe...that appeared to be COMPLETE with no apparent rust.....The windscreen was curved so I take it that it was a 1955. I was not able to look the car over closely , the only major flaw was a right front fender dent..that does not appear to be terminal. I believe this car to be a long time resident of Nevada.

What I need to know is what a good clean restorable Continental is worth. Also how desirable of a car is it?

I'm a treasure hunter....

It needs an engine overhaul...175000 miles and the case has never been split...it will run but leaks and smokes badly. Otherwise it is a sound orginal car.

I want to give it to someone to go through the car completely and freshen it up doing what ever it takes....when I get the car back I want it to be as perfect as it can be. I don't think it quiet needs a ground up...

I am under no illusion as to what it will take to do it...I've thought in lump somes of $$$$$ to do it...but realistically a check here and next month a check there....and it will get done....

Also I need the right person to do it.....I think that person will have to be as big of an a$$hole as myself though.....

If the question hasn't been answered yet, the Continental was Porsche's follow up to the 356 which is now known as the pre-A (never a true factory designation). Lincoln, who was releasing their "Lincoln Continental" around the same time, protested and forced Porsche to drop the Continental name. The car is rare, simply for the badge, nothing else. Value? that I don't know, they are certainly more "esoteric" then any other A coupes, apart from Carerras.

The 55 year is very tricky, with the transition to the T-1 body. If you haven't already looked at it, here's the Registry's spotters guide. I find it very usfull, and interesting to see the range of little changes that happened from year to year with these early cars.

Rather than spend all that $$$ on the engine rebuild, why don't you just sell the car to me?

If I sold my 911S what would I have in the way of a Porsche???? I would feel naked, and would be out hunting for one.....with the thing in the garage that need or want as it maybe is satisfied. Even if it doesn't run....very well....It is flattering that U would be interested in my car, but a Ivory White 69S is a nice combination, and would be almost impossible to replace. (I have the orginal owners warranty card with engine number, dealer and date of purchase..plus many service records).

I am bound and determined to fix the dam thing....
