    Scam Alert!

Potential Scam here... I received the following email. I don't think we should sit here and critique the scammer as that would just give her/him a chance to improve on their style. Just posting for reference or some confirmation that this is real/bogus:

Might be legit...not all international emails are scams. Did you do a search on the company names? If a check arrives that is an amount larger than your asking price? RUN!

I have found at least eleven things that I consider to be suspicious about that email.

Having spent 10 years of my life working for a very paranoid American brokerage house (the one with the genetically correct bull for a mascot) and having seen every scam in the game, I am usually pretty good about spotting questionable emails. This one fits the bill.

I received a similar email for my 2000 Audi S4 that I'm selling last week. I think it's a scam. Here's the email I received:

    "Good day sir/ma
I saw your recently posted advert of the particular product you are willing to sell, AWESOME 2000 S4 (in A4 & S4 (B5) Classifieds) well i am so much interested in it,and i have informed my client about it and he has agreed on paying for the product and he will be paying by a certified cashier check,if this product is still available for sale ,i would like to know the least asking price as well as the available pics of it and the present condition,i would like to have the address in which the cashier check will be forwarded to,and i have a personal shipping agent that will come for the shipment of the car as soon as the transaction is completed, you can contact them at Gary_shippingagency@keromail.com for more info....
I want the full name and address that the cashier check will be forwarded to and phone number asap...
I hope to read from you today asap.......
    Thanks
    Mrs Mary newton"

After receiving this email I was suspicious and asked her to call me if truly interested and this was her reply...

"I want the full name and address that the cashier check will be forwarded to and phone number asap...and the price again
I hope to read from you today asap......."

I again replied and gave her a little more info on the car and again asked her to call me for my address... I haven't heard from her since Friday.

    Tom,

Thanks for that link, looks very good.

Unfortunately, all they seem to be seeking is MY personal information and frankly, these days, the less your government knows about me, the better. Hey, hate to sound paranoid but these are crazy times.

I'm selling an enclosed car hauler, and in response to my internet ad, I received an email from a supposedly interested buyer who claimed to want to buy it and ship it to Holland (??!!).

    Sir/Madam.
I am Ben Vogt, manager of Ben car compound{BCC},Parc Centre Boeing Avenue 9, Schiphol-Rijk, Netherlands. We specialise in purchase of Autos(car, bike and boat) for customers here in Europe, and we get paid in commission, after payment has been confirmed by the seller to the buyer.I write you on behalf of our client to contact you and arrange for the buying and shippment of your vehicle which our client saw on the internet,we would like to know the conditions of the said vehicle and probably arrange for payment to get to you and shippment.
My customer interested in purchasing your car mentioned for the sum of $9,200 and we will arrange for the pick up of the car once payment is confirmed cleared by you. Please acknowledge the offer and we will inform the buyer of your confirmation of acceptance to sell and have the funds remitted to you as soon as possible ,and i'll like this transaction to be kept in utmost trust.I hope you can understand.
Hope to hear from you soon.
    Ben.

N.B: pls send the picture of this vehicle via email.
Obviously a scam, so I replied...

    Hi Ben,

Thanks very much for your interest in the vehicle I have for sale. I think there's a little confusion on the price, but its just probably a typing mistake on your part. I also don't know why you are calling it a 'haulmark trailer', its actually a Liebherr T822B truck. And its for sale for $920,000 (not $9,200). I'm sure your client is aware of this.

I've had the truck for about a year now. I bought it from a local strip-mining operation with only 480,000 hours on it! I don't use it for hauling anymore, just to drive around on sunny weekends. It's really reliable. The truck is also pretty rare, there's only 2 or 3 of these driving around my hometown. It doesn't get very good gas mileage for sure, but the ladies love it, and are always asking me for rides. Your client will love driving it around Holland, it makes all those other monster pick up trucks Holland is known for look tiny.

I know Holland has a lot of mining too, doesn't most of the world's unobtainium come from those huge Netherlands strip-mines I read about? So if your client is thinking of using the truck back in the strip mines, it would be great for that too.

With all the confusion on the truck and the price, please confirm back that you're still interested. If your client wants to come on over and take it for a drive, let me know. I cleaned and waxed the truck over the last couple of days, and took another picture of it, which I've attached. Let me know what you think!!!

    Best regards,

    Too bad. Never heard back...
