    electrical problem

hello all, got a problem with my 71 911t. i'm trying to resurrect this car after long storage. put in new batts and tried to start but nothing at all. guages or lights etc would not work either until i jiggled a few noticable wires under the ignition switch. now i have everything it seems but the starter and the horn. also, when i use the directionals both arrows light up. assuming it's the ignition switch, does that come out easy or do i have to peer under the dash?
    any ideas appreciated

    Steve:
It sounds like you have ground problems. Check and clean varrious ground studs and connectors. On early Porsches the ground wires are brown. The two turn signal lamps being light is a ground problem.

I read that 90% of Porsche electrical problems are from a bad ground. Start from scratch, make sure all the contacts are perfectly clean, and you will save yourself (and future owners) a lot of headache.

A typical problem on these cars is the ground strap between the transaxle and the chassis, under the car. The ends must be tight, rust and oil free to get a good contact.

Glad you brought this up...I know a guy who cared enough to install double ground straps...
