    Too Aero?

    Since I pulled the air and all the related hardware off, the area behind the splitter was a convoluted area of indented boxes and cutouts. I fabbed a piece of sheet metal which no runs from the splitter back across the front part of the A-arms, covering all.

    Since the car also lacked a cover plate for the tunnel behind the front suspension, I fabbed a piece which covers the tunnel and runs back to meet the flush area of the flooring.

    Any downsides to this clean undertray approach?

    when we were racing the roundyround cars
    the battle was always removing the max amount of air from under the car.
    We sometimes went to extreme lengths to do things that just skirted the class rules including an attempt at a full undertray!
    Sometimes we made tech , sometimes we didn't but it sure made the point that the more air under the car the less down force.
    The only drawback that I can think of is a loss of a couple of mph at 10/10ths which is only a factor about 4-5% of the time anyways.


    Anyway what do I know I drive a 2.2 914

    I like what you described. There is a long thread on Pelican by Jack Olsen about this very same thing and side skirts. It should answer all your questions, but if you never read it, I think you did the good thing under there.

    Jack's thread on Pelican actually inspired the clean under-tray approach, for the front. Since it's not a track car, the enhanced splitter and side skirts are out.

    However, I did fab a small, unobtrusive, black rubber splitter for my Audi sedan which extends, and helps feed, the brake cooling ducts.
