Can not believe not one Bob Smith VW Porsche (Hollywood) frame on this thread? Grew up with all the Smith kids, nice people. Loved the pictures of Trans Ocean in Pasadena, knew the service manager and the parts guys very well. Drove my Porsche powered '56 VW down to Econo (EMPI) one day just to see what was going on down there. Probably visited most of the VW/Porsche dealers in So Cal in the late '60's, guess I should have been asking for LPF's. My '69S was originally sold by Competition Motors in North Hollywood, where James Dean bought his Speedster in '55.

Anyone have a photo of a Trans World Motors (Goleta, CA) license plate? Or a spare one they'd sell?

    Kappauf porsche audi

Just went through all 37 pages and did not see a single KAPPAUF Porsche Audi frame. Seems this PA dealer went under back in 1970. Anyone out there with a car that came from this dealer?

    Don't know about 1970 . . . nothing listed in any PDLs that I have --- '68 thru '73

Frame looks like a later style --- w/ mounting holes drilled thru the lower panel

Looks like this dealership was superseded by Knopf Automotive(?) . . .
    http://www.knopfauto.com/index.htm

    . . . and a Caddie dealer's there now

    Ugh!

So --- I go back and look-up the address, again . . . and the town

Turns-out that there was a Porsche dealer in Allentown, PA . . .

    . . . and at that same address . . .

    Roger Penske Porsche Audi, Inc ('72) . . .

    . . . then . . .

    Scott-Penske P+A, Inc ('73)

Looks like Kappauf took over The Captain's store after?

    Well --- since you mentioned it . . .

    . . . from the '69 and '70 PDLs . . .

    Bob Smith Porsche Audi
    1750 (1751) No Cahuenga Blvd
    Hollywood, CA 90028

    Un-painted/chrome lettering in a dull-black letter-box, flash-chromed. No makers' marks/ID, plate = blah-blah-blah . . .

Very odd frame --- and one which I've hesitated to post before. Going by the PDLs that I have, it seems that Smith lost his Porsche concession ~'70 . . .

    . . . and --- this frame clearly displays Porsche + AUDI . . . which seems 'correct'

My problem is that --- any display of Audi's 4-ring logo always seemed to take place much later --- like, late '70s-on (?)

    And, yet . . . this is an early-style frame, so --- who knows? . . .

Maybe this is the very 1st time that Audi's rings showed-up on a dealer frame?

    Dunno

    Meanwhile . . . Galpin Ford/Hollywood Car + Truck rentals 's there now

White lettering on a med blue back-round, no makers' marks/ID. Plate = std SC pass, etc

'VW' logo w/ 'stacked' Porsche + Audi is unusual

Cooperative Ministry sits on the site, today
I remember Nix from my childhood. Nice to see the frame on those great SC Tricentennial plates. Those plates were weight coded in '70 and first letter "B" indicates a vehicle in the range of 2,001 to 2,500 lbs, about right for a 911. Perfectly color-coordinated for Porsches of a certain shade.

    Vasek Polak . . .

. . . one of the few dealers in continuous operation, all the way thru the Longhood years --- and before + after. Also one of the most famous

    From the '68 thru '73 PDLs . . .

    411/041/1
    Vasek Polak Porsche Audi
    199 Pacific Coast Hwy
    Hermosa Beach, CA

Dull white lettering on a dull black back-round, flash-chromed, RWB &Co

This frame's been restored. And notably heavier for it. Some slight blunting of some of the lower corner details, as well

    Frame comes in several versions --- more usually w/ VW + Porsche emblems . . . applicable to ~'70 . . . and is also widely reproduced. More here --- see post #180 . . .
    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...-Frames/page18

This particular version is appropriate to the early '70s and I only say that because it's exactly this type of frame that's on 9110301353 . . . better known as the 700-mile S --- see post #40 . . .

    Conine-Swab . . .

    . . . from the '72 PDL . . .

    Conine-Swab Porsche Audi, Inc
    4215 So Memorial Drive
    Tulsa, OK

Semi-gloss white lettering/semi-gloss black back-round, flash-chromed, no makers' mark/ID. Plate = std OK pass iss. Nice/serviceable frame that, at a quick glance, looks plainer than it really is --- check-out the fine 'pebbling' inside the letter-boxes

Early '70s (?) version. Pretty obscure, too --- no details other then this outfit seems to've been in operation in the '70s

Express Credit Auto's at that location now

    More Conine-Swab . . .

    Another/alternative version

I'm starting to think that maybe frames w/ this Porsche + AUDI format are later versions. Conine-Swab is the 1st dealer that I've come across that has the Porsche + AUDI names both 'stacked + boxed' and not
