As seen in the WTB, it cleaned up real nice and may not even need restoring.

    Another Gardner . . .

    . . . from the '70 thru '72 PDLs . . .

    Gardner Motors, Inc
    65 Morristown Road
    Bernardsville, NJ 07924

Semi-matte white lettering in dull grey-blue 'phonographed' letterboxes, all on flash-chromed pot-metal; still death-bolted to an OG 1970 NJ pass plate

Coupla interesting things going on, here. First is the tagging of the frame --- showing the Porsche 'crest' + Audi 'rings' . . . instead of those makes' names actually spelled-out. The only other contemporary dealers to do the same were the Bob Smith and Penske stores

Second is the plate, itself --- a one-year-only version that experimented w/ reflectorization . . . hard to see in these pics

    The building stands un-occupied, today

I can only find them in the '70 PDL.

    One year only, I think.

    (Way to go, Kieth!)

I know this is a pretty old post, but I thought I'd chime in. I know Mike Rexroat. He's still around. In fact, my father bought his 1970 T coupe from him in 1969/70. Mike was working at Gruber Porsche in Cedar Rapids, then soon opened his own dealership in East Moline (Rexroat Porsche Audi). He eventually sold the dealership and it became Lujack Porsche. Cool story. About 5 years ago I jumped in my '83SC and my friend Nick in his '71 S (he also owns a '70 914 from new) and drove to a small town about 30 minutes away for lunch. My dad was riding shotgun. At the pub we stopped at for lunch was an older man having lunch. As we finished our lunch the man walked up to our table and asked "are those your Porsches out there?" "Yes, they are" we answered. He replied "I'm Mike Rexroat, is one of you Jameel Abraham?" I just about fell out of my chair. Mike was visiting from out of town and just happened to be at the same pub as us in a nearby town none of us lived in! (I had reached out and written him a couple emails over the past year, but I'd never met him before.) The real kicker is, Mike had not seen my father or Nick since the early 70's when dad bought his '70T from Mike, and Nick his '70 914. It was one of those bizarre Porsche moments you just can't make up. Imagine the odds of running into a person almost 50 years later under these circumstances. Pretty cool stuff.

I bought a 9 month old '72 914 from Kendon. I traded in a '65 VW convertible. Had the 914 back again as I bought it from my ex a few years after the divorce. So I bought the same car 2wice. I didn't know jack didley about buying cars then. I was 27 in '72.
