    what year did wooden steering wheel go from alu to iron spokes?

    Does anybody know in what year the wooden steering wheel for the early 911's went from aluminium to iron spokes?

    Very early production in year of 65.....mine came off of car 1056 in the production run. Have seen original 3,000 or so car with steel. I still have the steering wheel....very light, and fragile. The wood is different as well.

    '65 is the correct date. Also the early aluminium spoke wheels are incredibly rare. The latter steel version can be identified by a black seam running around the wooden rim. Like this:

    what is a fair price for one you showed?

    I'm no expert and I guess it depends on how much a buyer is willing to pay as well as the condition of the wheel. Still, they're pretty rare and here in the UK I have seen them swap hands for c. £300 +
