Thread: Moving to South Orange County

    Moving to South Orange County

A new job is heading my wife, daughter, Ol' Guard Rail, and I west (the cat too). We will be living in Coto de Caza and I will be working in Irvine. I will sadly leave behind my good friend Jared and other early car guys out here in the mid west and heading for the sun. Too bad, it seems like the group out here is just starting to get momentum.

So, anyone in my new area that I can buddy up with, ask stupid questions to, or just hang out and stare at our cars? With all the early cars in California there must be someone in or near my neighborhood.

    Cheers,

    Tom Kearns

p.s. Is it time that I swap out my original badge for a repo in fear of theft? In Michigan nobody really knows what items like that are worth!

Mark Minkoff (Minkoff on Pelican) lives in Coto. He has a fine race car.

No worries on the badge in Coto. It's a guarded gate community. Very wealthy community. And, you won't leave your car at the mall, will you?

Thumbs up Welcome to Orange County

    Hi Tom,

No fear you will probably go into Early 911 overload when you first get here.
Between all the Early 911S Registry and R Gruppe members here, you'll have PLENTY of early 911 buddies to hang with. I live in Lake Forest, no more than 10-15 minutes away from Coto.
WELCOME TO ORANGE COUNTY, EARLY 911 HEAVEN!!!!

    All the best!

Too bad? You won't be saying too bad in Jan and Feb when you don't have to wake up at 5am to shovel your driveway so you can go to work.

These questions are cracking me up. You forgot to ask if there are any Mexican restaurants out here that are as good as the Michigan ones and if the girls in Orange County look better in bikinis than their midwestern counterparts.

Like has been said, this is early 911 heaven. You are going to crap when you come to Dunkle Bros in February. Oh yeah, you'll probably be wearing shorts too.

Top 10 Reasons for Tom and Ole Guard Rail to Stay in Michigan:

    1. 4 months with nothing else to do but work on it.

    2. Yes, badge safety - "you can get a new one at the dealer you know".

    3. Driving tours with color other than smoggy green.

    4. Finely honed pothole dodging skills will wane.

    5. MFI won't work with hydrogen.

    6. Tragic waste of a cool vintage MI plate.

    7. Arnold hates Signal Yellow "too girlie" - considering a ban.

    8. Think of all those miles you'll clock on the odo.

    9. Refried beans are a BITCH to get out of basketweave.

    10. Hey... I'll have the best 911 in town again!!!

    Damn TRAITOR!

    Welcome to the OC.
From reading this and the Pelican boards you should be aware of the busy Porsche schedule in your new area.
A couple of other early 911 owners that frequent the So Cal Porsche events are Automotive Designers too.
Post a pic of your car again, I can't remember which one was yours?
Maybe New Years day you'll call your buddies in Michigan during your first 911 cruise of the year.
