Don, Was it one of 6 "rally" cars produced? Made for SCCA racing? The rules for "sedan" class being loose back then? If so, here's a pic of a sister car...

Paul,
I am not sure though I guess it could be. The dealer had this car coming in and was not ordered by the buyer. The car came from a Porsche dealer called Auto Sport by Jiri in Vestal, Upstate New York. This dealer I am told had some unusual cars come through including the yellow S 90 GT that G& W did. The only options the car had was the $80 5 speed gearbox and the Rally kit which was $288. The car new cost $6,358 total.
Best,
Don
Sounds VERY much the same. The car in the pic here was imported by the then Porsche Cars Northwest...not for an individual, but for the distributorship to sponsor as a race car. One of 6, to be spread throught the USA for SCCA racing as a sales promotion. The one in the pic was driven by Gary Wright, another was driven by Alan Johnson. If anybody here has race records from Sebring? I'm not sure of the year... But Gary led most of the race, engine developed oil pressure problems late in the race, Alan Johnson went on to take the win. Perhaps your car was there as well? I have a photo copy of a letter written by the manager of the then Porsche Cars northwest, Terry B. In it, he describes how the concept of these cars came about...I'd always hoped I'd have a shot at buying the silver weenie, the car in the above pic...but alas, my lottery numbers never came in, and it was recently sold, in pieces, by a Florida collector for more than I could afford...

I didn't think it was possible, but you've managed to top the 68 rally car.
Hans Niederer?
Paul,
I would love to see that letter. Could you fax it to me? (631)206 1189
Curt, Yes Hans Niederer, Do you know him?
Don, no. Just have some race results on his/your car. I may have some photos somewhere. Did it usually run #97?
Hey Curt,
Yes 97 IS the car. You are amazing. Please post what you may have. Check your pm. Thanks.
Don
No fax here. I'm retired, no need for one. A letter several pages long. If copies of copies are okay, PM a snail mail address, I'll send them. The letter was written to the past owner of the silver weeinie, he was kind enough to send me copies when we were talking on the phone about an unrelated subject...it's just that your post piqued my interest. Wondering if yours and this car could be sisters...
