    Isn't a more correct plate DAS 911? Cars are considered female gender (don't ask where that came from). Perhaps the car is destined for some radical surgery?

    That's what I thought, which is why I called one of my dear old German friends to confirm. He told me that German is so full of irregular rules that they aren't even rules. The correct way to say "The 911" in German is actually Der Neunelfer and thus "DER 911". Don't ask, just trust a college educated German to give it to you straight.
