So he comes back and eventually gets his county job, and with the help of some contacts in the DMV, searches for years . . . and finds 'his' car, again --- and buys it. When I saw it, that car was still sitting in his garage awaiting restoration . . . total nasty mess

Anyway, neat-enough story --- but that wasn't what caught my eye

You see, not only did his DMW friends help him locate his Pontiac convertible --- they also watched for a certain/particular license plate for it . . . which was now on that car

This all happened 40 years, ago --- but even then . . . there were some pretty motivated people who wanted that plate

I can only imagine what that tag would be worth today

Although I don't remember Boyd Coddington ever dealing with Porsches, I've always been partial to his license plate frames

Hmmm. That one in post 473 above looks familiar. From my '69S. I think the last page of old Road And Track magazines had pictures called "Parting Shots". Always wanted to get my wife to put on a bikini and lean over the driver door like she was talking to someone inside, and take a shot from behind the left rear corner that included her and the license plate and send it in to them.
Please note that it was last registered in 1978. 75K original miles, stripped down to bare metal right now and hopefully going back to it's original Coffee Brown in the next year. Everything still there but the engine and MFI are 2.2S spec now , but you can' tell.

EJB-23 is a New York license plate that I've had for almost 60 years. It was first used on my 1955 300 SL. When the 1969 Porsche beame old enough (25 years) to qualify for YOM plates, EJB-23 was transferred over to it and the 300 SL received 994-CN, a 1955 YOM number plate that had been in the family since the 1940s.
