    Cool Backdated Speedster

Not just right, but interesting enough I guess...
I found two 911 Speedsters (for sale for $$$$$$) that have been converted to F model...

For me those two are missing the 'all gone' way especially interiorwise,
but something like that - done right... (what about 15'' on that grey one???) could be an awesome RGruppe car...

What about that hardtop being finished less stylish, stripped, with an R/RSR type acrylic window in the back, rollbar, early seats, dash, windshieldframe finished silver (polished or chrome), early lenses, sport muffler, ...

Damn...I need to play the lottery and start buying parts!!!

I would love a project like that, I would love to have funds for a project like that...

    Cheers!

I agree Thorsten, they got partway there, but...

I always loved the Stan Townes Speedster from the early days-

    Thumbs up

Wow Jens, those are really interesting cars, espeecially the Stan Townes Speedster. Neat concept. Funny, you'd think after years of reading the boards you've seen everything. Then something like this comes up. Thanks for posting, I'll have to add these to the archive.

Here's more recent shots of the red car. It was a '66 912 coupe at birth. Had identity issues. Surgery about 12 years ago in Indiana. Very well done, but true fair weather car (no top, side windows). I was most impressed with the 356-type engine lid. Many coverters leave that part stock. Car was briefly mine but it now resides in Cresent City, CA.

Great photos Jim, thanks. The car has balance.

The Stan Townes photograph is from the Golden Gate Concours in 1971. A period piece!

I thought so too Jens. I corresponded with the fellow in Indiana who built that car and also the silver one in the previous photo. They both went for a song a few years ago on Ebay. I thought seriously about the silver car as a sort of Beck spyder/ fair weather/ daysailer kind of car.....If we only had another four or five months of nice "wind in your hair" driving weather around here.

The fellow who made them definitely has a good eye for proportion and detail as well as some pretty impressive fabrication skills. The last time I heard from him he was thinking of a project using a boxster as a starting point.

Who did the work on the 912? That just may be a good project for a nice SWB normal or T... hmmmmm I like it. I remember the one from the Oakland Roadster show. It made a showing at Pomona or something like that as well. At that time, I was sure that Porsche was going to use that design for their cab.

I corresponded with the Indiana builder a couple of years ago but no longer have his address. The current owner of the car may have it. I will give you his name and email if you wish to send me a direct email.
