Gulf sponsorship started in 1970 and the colors would have been introduced sometime in 1971 for the 1972 model year. The point being: Porsche didn't use Gulf as a reference to a body of water such as the Gulf of Mexico, it's a reference to Gulf Oil. There are actually several different shades of blue and orange used thru-out the years by Gulf Oil. There are even slight noticeable color differences in the Porsche Gulf liveries between 1970 and 1972.

    Gulf Blue?

    Fryardds,

The Gulf Blue comes up as Gulf Orange? After doing a search on the glasurit site I cant find either.

    Thanks for your help,
    Dan

    Dan,

Thanks for pointing that out. I fixed the link above to send you to the Gulf Blue formula on the Glasurit site.

    yuk

    Gulf Blue ??!!!

    What an u--ggggglllyyyy color
    hehehehehehe

Funny thing is that maybe 5 years ago I really would have thought that....

I do not know a lot about senility or the "growing old" process but all of a suden all of the colors I hated I now love (orange, gulfs, yellow, any green etc..)
    kinda strange.....

Oh, as far as the thread.. I'd just go with the 1972 colors..... also elephant racing did a car in these colors - there's a link to the whole restoration on their page if you want a look.
