It is a 67 912 originally painted Slate Grey. Looks like an earlier 911 engine added. The wood wheel could have been built with the car or added but were common. The rivets were on the 356 Derrington wood wheel. The dash trim sounds standard as well as alot of what you describe. The guages were added since it is a 912. Hope this helps.

The first change came in 69 with a more pronounced fenderwell lip. Before that 64-68 had the "Slab sides" With mystry cars you want some type of fender flare ect. to have it be unique. There was a 73 S that surfaced with small factory flares and more recent another member here has an old swb car with R type flares...The fact the car is a 912 kind of rules out any special type rare car as the 911 was the car that was raced ect..

Dont, actually 912s were indeed raced in the european rallye championship, and won in 67.

Harry, I am sure there were 912s that were racied or Rallied but I doubt the Factory ran any or built any purpose racing 912s as they did 911s.

no, they were factory, but it was short lived (obvious reasons..). its not as well known as say.. vic elford's greatness and legacy.. but Sobieslaw Zasada won the 67 european rallye championship for touring cars in a 912 (same year elford won monte carlo in the 911).

The image above is a digital composite of two pages from the 1968 Factory Press Kit, announcing Sobieslaw Zasada's success as the '67 European Rally Champion with his 912. Translation by 912 owner Alex v. Wachter:

    1967 Year-End Report.

    Second part, Motorsport

Sobieslav Zastavda, Polish Ralley Champion, 912.

Porsche wins the European Championship for Gran-Tourismo- and "Close-to-Road-Spec" cars.

Since the last Ralley Monte Carlo with the Porsche-Team, top driving-team Vic Elford/David Stone overarchieved all expectations and won with their Porsche 911S not only the Rally European Championship. They won the Lyon Charbonnieres Solitude, the Tulpenrally and the Rally Geneva in their class, too.

In the "Close-to Series" cars class, the Pole Sobieslaw Zastava won the European Master Title in a Porsche 912.

    Elford/Stone = 57 points, Zasada = 64 points"

NOTE: In the 9th event in the 1967 European Rallye Championship, the Geneva Rallye, Zasada and Dobrzanski placed fourth overall. As shown above, Zasada and his 912 actually scored more points than the much better known, Monte Carlo winning, factory 911S driven by the two Englishmen Vic Elford and David Stone. The 911, of course, went on to a stellar rally career, but the 912 played a part in Porsche rally history that should not be forgotten.
