    Which Wheel to Buy??

Well, Kermit may be in Hibernation, but for my birthday, wifey has offered to buy me a new steering wheel. These are the two that I have on my "wish list."

Both period correct, both in prime condition, both with hub, spacer and Porsche horn button. One is a Prototipo, and the other is a Nardi. The Nardi is $100 more expensive. I don't know much about these wheels, other than that they look very similar to me. Is there something extra special about the Nardi? Is it just that they are more rare?

They are equally nice in my book - wifey likes the slots in the spokes more than the circles - at least that is one reason to make a choice.

Here's the two choices. I would appreciate your comments.

    Most have the Pototipo...

But I have to say I love my Nardi...

It's delicate, got finger grips on the back... and just looks right in my car...

Alfas as I recall.. That Nardi wheel looks so right in your car, Chuck. I have an old one too (early 60's) I picked up at the Lit Fair a couple of years ago. Love to have the right car for that one.

    Happy Holidays my friend!

Dare to be different, get the Nardi. After all, most folks have the Prototipo.

Besides, having a happy wife make for happy drives

Larry, go with the Proto - you can dare to be different by getting a black one (seems Curt started a trend towards silver). I think the round holes in the spokes fit perfectly with the 911's character and racing heritage.

I love mine... well, that is until I drove Cornpanzer's car with the vintage Proto. It has a larger overall diameter and less offset - it just felt perfect... in a more period way. I could also see more of the gauges, added bonus. Let me know if you find another one Dave!

I chose to be different...Momo Competition with Momo shifter knob...and yes, the guage faces are being repainted as we speak (that hint of rust really grosses me out)

I like the Prototipo because it feels thinner and you can get them in suede which makes a huge difference to me.

However, I like 15" wood Nardis better than any other wheel I've ever held. Could it be because that was the wheel that was in my dad's car when I was learning to drive? Maybe.

What I can definitely tell you is STAY AWAY FROM DINOs. They're ugly and belong on Ferraris. I have one on my car and I hate it because of the way it looks ... it feels 'okay' in hand. The redeeming quality is that its design allows me to see all my gauges.
