Thread: Pre-Assembled CV Axles from VertexAuto?

  1. #11
just an update. decided to rebuild my existing CV axles considering they were probably not worn but one boot had a hole. messy job but considering the savings and anticipating an engine transplant it was well worth the effort. so $25 in 4 new boots and $15 in cv grease i saved a good chunk of money over buying new (as much as $400 per axle) or rebuilt (as much as $170 per axle plus shipping your cores). money saved will go towards SSIs. yeah me!

    Nicely done Bob!
Did you have any trouble getting the joints off the halfshaft to replace the boot? I tried to do my RH one when I purchased my car and the joints were seized on the shaft - never did get them off. Ended up buying a complete replacement unit.

i managed to get all the joints off with out much effort or special tools. i admit lacking mechanical skills but this job just requires a bit of determination - but not much. the c clips were the most difficult part for me to remove maybe due to my wimpy pliers. all in all very easy and very messy but worth it for the money savings.
