    Polishing stainless steel

I got new (to me), factory style, square s.s. mirrors for my '75 911S Targa. There was a little scratch on the left mirrior so I naively went after it with polishing compound...which greatly reduced the scratches but left rub marks...so I tried McGuires #2 on it with minimal results. Any suggestions for getting back to the "almost chrome" look of the original stainless steel surface ???

This is just a guess...would extremely fine steel wool work?

I would go over the whole part with Blue Magic polishing compound and a soft terrycloth towel until the finish is even. Simichrome polish is also good.

It has always worked well for me.
