    Clyde,

I'll bet you have the original steering wheel, but one of the previous owners broke the plastic horn button, pulled it off then threw it away and put on a metal one. The interesting thing is that the plastic horn button on my car and George's RS were broken on the same side and in the same spot. I was such a 911 neophyte George had to tell me that it is a unique part to the early build cars.

    George,

Were the '73 RSR cars delivered with a double wraped, four spoke wheel, with the plastic horn button also?

    George,
Since we have a Super Secret Seat Police Department, I would like to be the first to nominate you Steering Wheel Police Sheriff.

That horn button with the embossed Porsche in leather and chrome horn ring looks to be off of an early 65-68 stock 911 or 912 wheel. My 67 911 has the leather embossed logo and chrome ring on a butterfly. Were the butterfly horn mounts an upgrade versus the horn button only for particular years?

This is why I love this board! This is one subject in which I'll always love being the student

George, is that an original extended hub or did you fab it?

This is what's in the '73 parts book:

    901.347.081.00 - T,E - Steering wheel ebonite

911.347.082.00 - All - Streeing wheel with foamed rim

    911.347.081.05 - Spec. Equip. - T,E - ebonite with projecting hub

911.347.082.05 - Spec. Equip. - All - Foamed rim with projecting hub

    901.347.081.10 - Spec. Equip. - All - Leather rim

901.347.080.15 - Spec. Equip. - All - Leather rim with projecting hub

What I don't understand is NONE of the above is optioned for a RS Carrera... The Carrera column has NO recommendation, just the ( - ) which indicates 'not an option' ... Any other Carrera part I have looked for has been in my standard '73 parts book.... So I'm wondering where would the 380mm RS wheel appear in my book ? ... Or does it ? ... I've looked - and nothing

BTW - I also have the U.S. options/order form package for the '73 RS and other then leather raped, has no reference to a special steering wheel.

    Anyway... hope the helps,

    Glenn - 901 347 081 05 is a 400mm leather rim wheel.

    Thanks Andy!!

I guess the PO ordered a leather wheel, charged for the 400mm and received the 380mm wheel. Your information has pulled this all together for me now.

    Thanks again,

    Glenn

    George,

Was wondering if that small horn button is readily available or is it a rare item?

FWIW, the RS manual says that a standard (serienmässig) 914 380mm leather steering wheel was used.
