    Durant mirror install help -

My 69S came with the later style chrome flag mirror so I purchased an reconditioned OEM Durant mirror from Tweeks to go back to original. When I installed the mirror they sent I had 2 problems. The Durant mirror has studs mounted on it that go through the door holes. The studs are so long that one of them pokes all the way through the access hole on the inside of the door. Obviously I can grind this down to make it fit, but it seems wrong. The other problem is that once mounted I cannot adjust the mirror to where I can actually see straight behind the driver's rear fender. The best I can do is about 5 degrees of to the side - not very helpful for seeing behind you while driving.

I figured this mirror must be defective so I had Tweeks send a second mirror. That mirror has the exact same issues. A picture of the mirror is below. I feel like I must be doing something wrong?? Thanks.

I don't believe you're doing anything wrong. I had 2 of those reproduction mirrors and they did the same thing. I actually took the glass out of one and attempted to "blueprint" the mechanism inside.

To no avail. They are cheaply made and basically crap. If you do take the mirror out, you will be able to adjust the thing more to your liking when you have access to the other end of the bolt and the convex washer. I'd tighten it down where you want it and forget about ever adjusting it again.

    I bought a Talbot instead.

Thanks for the replies - at least this confirms I am not totally incompetent. If anyone has an OEM Durant mirror for sale I am interested.
