    concealing oil pipes

Has anyone relocated their oil pipes from outside the cills to inside the cills, and if so what does it require please

I am going to back date the car to the pre-impact bumper look therefore will be removing the cill/rocker covers so the pipes would be very visible, and although i know that would be good for cooling i cannot help but feel it just looks plain ugly

Apologies if this has already been discussed but i could not find any reference to it on the site

My car is a Euro spec 1975 2.7 Carrera

any advice would be very welcome
    many thanks

I am sure someone will come up with a number but I'm pretty sure that the outside pipes contribute more than 50% of the cooling effect of the front wing mounted cooler. Porsche put the pipes through the sills in 1970 or so, but its a PITA as you need to remove the outer sills to do the job and cut big holes in the cahssis

thanks for the reply, I hope I don't have to, but I suspect i may find myself funding some remedial works to the cills on this car so maybe I could combine that with concealing the pipes, anyway we can talk about that when I come round to see you !

at least it is a possibilty

    thanks again

As Nick has said, the oil lines running outside the Sills give the oil cooling system a large part of it's effectiveness. I happen to like the purposeful look of exposed lines. But then, I like perlon interiors, and American Racing wheels, hood mounted Cibie driving lamps and radio delete dashes!

People have been known to fish AN 12 braided lines up through the sills without cutting the outer rockers all up. If your car tends to run warm to hot at all, then you may not want to do anything to compromise cooling and raise the oil temp. Of course you could add an extra oil cooler. $$$$

Please send me your old oil lines when you've removed them.

I dug out a pic of my daily driver with oil lines exposed, cain't hardley see 'em. Paint 'em black.

I agree about painting the lines black as well as the area below the rockers a a matching black. This makes them virtually invisible and retains the cooling.
