SSI ss heat exchangers but which ss muffler?

I want to put a ss exhaust system on my 67 911s but I am not sure what to use. First thought that Dansk was the way to go and then read a thread on a dutch porsche forum claiming they were inferior to SSI. Than again SSI does not produce a ss muffler. Does this forum have any toughts about which brand to go for and who makes good quality ss mufflers, oh and are there other issues to consider when considering going ss? By the way I am not looking for a performance increase, only for longevity...

    thx

    Turf,
I don't believe there would be any significant difference in performance between a stock Dansk and stock SSI muffler. If longevity is your primary concern, stainless would be your best bet.
I am guessing that the only significant performance increase you might see in your exhaust system would be by going with headers instead of the stock heat exchanger set-up. Of course, by doing this you would no longer have heat which wouldn't be a problem if you live in a warm climate all year. Plus you mentioned that you already have stainless heat exchangers. I do too. No more annual underside sanding and repainting to keep off the rust....
I bought my set new on EBay last year for $625 with the mounting gaskets. One of the few times I actually felt like I got a good buy. Stainless is the only way to go.

I would buy a Monty if I was in the market for one. Steve Weiner at Rennsport can hook you up.

I agree with Tom. My Monty sounded great, it was beautiful and it is claimed to produce a little power...$780 from Dave at Aase Sales. (aasesales.com)

I have a Monty that's a little beat up but functional, was thinking of doing the sport pipe conversion to it. Has anybody done this before? Any ideas on how the internal baffles compare to a stock muffler?

    Thanks,

I just got off the phone with Gary ay Stainless Systems (SSI). He is not making a muffler...yet. Although he is looking for tooling and a new site to do the work. His plan is a quality all stainless muffler for ~$500. Right now he recommends a Monty as do most of the quality places. The Dansk is not all stainless as their innerds are mild steel according to Gary (this goes for their HEs too). Also they are single wall which give off that tinny sound when compaired to a Monty. I have a Monty on my Carrera and on the 67 and am very happy with it. A huge quality piece when compaired to the competition. Although, if price is an issue you can save almost $500 for the whole set by going dansk v. SSI/Monty

There is the guy on PP (Ben--"mb911") who fabricates SS mufflers. I think Zeke tried one of his. You might check them out too. Prototype FS here:

Ben's (mb911) muffler for early 911s is $450 (as quoted to me a couple of weeks ago).
