    Convert RS into ST look?

I have my blut orange 73 RS replica in a million bits having the front floor pan replaced, a cage fitted, lightweight interior and seats, and aircon removed, and the urge to take the external look back to a ST or R has overtaken me. Can anyone advise me as to good sources for the lightweight front and rear ST or R type bumpers pls? And the requisite lights for the rally look?
    Thanks

I know GT-Racing has a pretty wide variety of the early glass/carbon stuff. MA Shaw is supposed to be nice quality stuff but I don 't know about their supply of early stuff. Hopefully some of the people that have bought some of this stuff will chime in.

I've always considered the glass to be half full...that is until I reached middle age and realized that it is actually half empty.

Wouldn't the rear end stay pretty much the same?

If the car is a steel RS conversion, with "real" steel RS flairs, I think I'd leave it. Steel RS flairs are just becoming too hard and too expensive to get ahold of. But if the car is fiber I'd go for the ST look. But all four fenders will be affected, as well as some other body parts.
BTW, I wish my RS conversion was not steel. I'd change my car in a second, including going to a 2.5 revver.

    Hi Simon,

Mike Tankard in Melbourne is a source for some glass panels to get your 'R' look right.

Here are some of the bits he supplied to get my project off the ground. What rear guards do you have at present ? Are they correct RS flares in steel ? We used some donor guards (I think) off an SC but needed to chop them around a bit plus convert them to SWB look by altering the torsion bar holes. My panel guy did a really great job on these and the end result will look very 'correct'. There are alos US based manufactureres but freight will be a killer getting the stuff to Perth, WA.

Thanks for the input guys. I'd post a photo but cant seem to because of the size of the file (328kb). I am following up the leads and will advise the outcome.

    ST series

    Shawn,

That pic is of the first of the STs for MY 1970.If you look closely you can see that is probably one of the first built as it has the door handles from 1968/9.
A colour pic from the Brian Long 911 book '71-'77 p 28 has it in red with yellow headlights(France?).
Grady and others may notice other differences as well.
As the capacity went up through 2.3,2.4 and 2.5 the bodywork went on steroids and a fibreglass diet along with the addition of Minilite wheels.
The prime US example was the Ginther Le Mans cars.
The end result was the 2.8 RS in 1973.
These STs were an important transition between the small bore 2.0 litre racers and the realisation that Porsche could take on and beat Ferrari in the large capacity classes.
Much interest has been generated in these STs in conjunction with the growth of interest in the early 911s.

    Phil,

What flare size is that on the rear of your red car? Who supplied the rear bumper?

    Thanks,

    Eric

    Eric,

I think the rear guards are off an early SC but had to be chopped around a bit as the PO had converted the car to LWB and fitted an IROC body kit

We also changed the torsion bar access holes to suit SWB.

The rear bar was sourced from a local guy in Melbourne, I think it was a used item. However its correct for SWB.

Are you looking into an 'R' project ?
