Strange Question: Where can I rent a Porsche or other fun car in the SF Bay Area

This may seem like a strange question, but here goes:

I used to live in Hillsborough, CA and was very involved in the Concours d'Elegance there, and I ran the Tour d'Elegance twice. After I moved back East, I attended and rented a Viper to do the drive (not exactly a classic, but they let me in anyway ). I am going back for the events this year (4/30 -5/1) and need to rent something fun: ideally older/classic, but could also be a newer 911.

Any ideas on where I can get my hands on a car for 24 hours?

Nothing as exotic as in LA or Miami, but you can get newer stuff like XK8's, SLK's, Boxsters, Cayennes, Mini convertibles, wedgy new Cadillacs and the like. Is there going to be a corral for old Porsches there this year?

    No Porsche corral for 05

I believe the last Porsche corral at Hillsborough was 2002- that was the year that Porsche was the featured marque for the Concours. This year featured will be Aston Martin and Bentley, and the corral is Italian Race Cars.

I think that I found the rental source that you were referring to. I was hoping for something a bit more exotic so that I was not too out of place on the Tour, but I may do the Cooper S convertible.

    Hi Michael,

I don't know if this would fit into your plans, but the famous (ie: infamous) RGruppe Gathering is in Monterey that weekend also. If you want to see a large bunch of really cool 911s and meet a bunch of great guys be sure to check it out.

Be forewarned that if you do go be prepared to start looking for your next early 911. Ask me how I know.

We are going to San Francisco on our honeymoon in April. I've been looking into http://www.specialtyrentals.com/ to rent a car for a dya drive up to Point Reyes and Napa.

The killer is, we will be there just ONE WEEK before the r-gruppe meet. Wish I'd known when we made our reservations!
