...I know this one! This wheel was made specifically for a well known racer called Siffert(Jo?).....the S was specifically requested by him. I think he had some seat time in 917's. He was quite successful , and did F1 too I believe..........

...couldnt resist; I have no idea, just JEALOUS!

The holes, or lack thereof in the spokes is pretty funky. maybe it's a prototype Prototipo prototype??

Hmmmm....ok, put down the wheel, box it up and send it to me pronto. I have it on good intel that wheel will cause you to lie in bed making strange engine sounds, thereby waking up the wife who proceeds to make you a necklace with it.

What's under the tape? Unless it's really ugly, I sure wouldn't recover it -- that's a nice patina.

    WOW!

If it`s one of Seppi`s steering-wheels I would have kept it like it is as a souvenir. One of all time greatest race drivers.

    George,
I have an early silver prototipo (Currently on my 70 S) that came as NOS from New Zealand. It has the same hole pattern as a "today" or "late" Prototipo, but it has NO dish whatsoever, totally flat.
I don't have a picture of it handy, but I will shoot one in the next few days and post it.
Have you seen this model in Europe? I have up till now assumed that the early racing versions were flat as well - no cockpit room to spare on swoopy styling issues like dished wheel design, etc...
