Central Texas road trip in April or May, 2005

    Hello everyone!
The Texas Early S group is at it again! We are planning to go to Midland, Texas in April or may for a weekend.
The new Jim Hall / Chapparal Museum is there, along with three CAF squadrons of WW II planes including Fifi the only operational B-29.
Here is copy of the first email to the 6 state area. if anyone from Cali or the rest of the west wants to attend, you will be most welcome! by car if possible, but we could accomodate a passenger or two from dallas or Austin, i'm sure.

    Here's the POST>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    Attention all members of
    The Early 911 S Registry,
    The 912 Registr
And other 911 Longhood Fanatics everywhere!

You are cordially invited to attend:
    Langehaube Fossilbrennstofffest,

    April - May, 2005

in Midland, Texas [The Oil Patch]

    Greetings, all 911 long-hood fanatics!

It is time to start planning for a Spring outing for the cars, after a long winter’s rest! After some discussion, Ed & Jan Mayo of Early S Registry, R Gruppe, and PCA renown, Morrie & Cindy Larson of the 912 Registry, and Jamie & Margie Novak of Pelican BBS and ST replica fame, we decided to hold the next meeting in Midland, TX, for a REAL change of scenery.

This will enable us all to put some fun miles on our cars, see the Jim Hall Chaparral Museum (the inventor of down force in race cars for you young pups, also the first guy to kickass with an Chevy V8 & automatic trans in a road race car), the LARGEST C.A.F. assemblage in Texas, along with many points of interest in the area!

Most of us will be traveling there on some wonderful Texas by-roads, avoiding the dreaded Interstates and the Semis that spew things our way…once there we will get to really enjoy some of Texas’ “Wide Open Spaces”

This time we are inviting our friends in the 912 Registry to join us, as well as other early 911 owners in the Texas and surrounding areas. We are hoping to have a 15 to 30 car turnout

    We generally plan to depart from our respective towns for Midland sometime on a Friday morning, calculated to arrive in Midland around 4 to 5 PM;

Planned routes and route leader will be defined for each broad area of interest, example DFW; meet with Ed & Jan Mayo at --T B D ----. Austin / San Antonio, meet with Bill Conway at ---T B D----. And so on.

We will have a half day air / auto show set for Saturday morning with the MAJOR Commemorative (formerly Confederate) Air Force Squadron in Midland, TX (see them at http://www.commemorativeairforce.org/units.html )

We plan to have Porsche Related Events scheduled thru Saturday night, giving everyone all day Sunday to get back to their home.

We will be selecting a hotel in Midland as soon as we have a fair idea of the dates and the number of rooms needed.

Mail the form below, and/or email me at billc@sbdgroup.net or call me in Austin at 512 275-3333

IF you’re interested and plan to attend, please send the information requested below back ASAP, so that we can finalize all planning by early March.

    THANKS!!! See you in Midland!!

Just had lunch with Morrie Larson (of the 912 club), sounds like a pretty large turnout is forming. Can anybody from this board make it?

Depends on the weekend. The R Gruppe gathering in Monterey is 29, 30 April, 1 May. The later the better?

    Dates are SET!!!

    Fellow early Porsche addicts;
We have settled on the 20th thru the 22nd of May for the Spring trip. Attendees should plan to arrive anytime on Friday. We will be notifying everyone of the hotel we will be in the first week of March. There is an Arts Festival there that weekend as well, so the wives can deploy for downtown if the smell of petrol becomes overpowering.

The detailed agenda are not yet finalized, expect that in our next mailing. We are shooting for hotel rooms in the $75 to $100 / night, and we will do a T shirt, along with some other goodies, etc. etc.

NOW, what I need is a idea of how many of you are interested in this trip. We have about 15 cars from the 912 Registry and the local early 911 gang here in Austin. That’s mostly couples, so about 30 folks at the present time. Please email me with some yea or nay info as soon as you can get your schedule review done, and find out if the better half wants a nice long weekend away from the big city hubbub!!

Thanks! Looking forward to seeing you ALL there!!

Some areas we will look at, and have done some research on are below.
    http://www.airpowermuseum.org/visit/index.shtml

    http://www.petroleummuseum.org/inside/VisitorINfo.html

These places are 12 miles apart on I20. We will do one in the morning and one in the afternoon on Saturday.

    Both are open 9-5.

$8.00 to get into the Petrol Museum, $10.00 for the CAF. We can work a group rate and include it in registration costs. One of them probably has a little place to eat. We will start there, eat lunch there, then go to the other place in the afternoon.

Drives will be our best attempt at interesting stuff in transit to each and between.

Dinner will be around 7:30pm. We will pick a hotel that has a conference room where we can set up a buffet. We will cater in a simple meal, chicken, roast beef, salad, veggie, potato, that sort of thing. Somewhere we can bring in some beer and wine...

    Here's their calendar:
