I have seen tool kit cases that have different textures. I have seen vinyl covers in basketweave, a leather texture and a fine clothlike texture.
Which case(s) belong to which year(s)?
Thanks,
Joe

71 911 = smooth burgundy vinyl (could be incorrect, but I suspect it's right)

'72S, made in July of that year. Basketweave, black. Ahhh, but always the rub. There seem to be variences within model years. Eric has posted on this before...and probably will again.

Sigh.....
The early textures are so subtle...that it's difficult to describe, I'll try to post pictures next week after back from a business trip.
First thing is all bags are black....NO other colors, period.
64 to 66, 2 different textures, both "fabric like" in appearance. One has more horizontal dobby like texture to it. Inside is putty color.
67, very fine cloth like texture, very similar to a fine gauge pinpoint shirt fabric, inside is either putty or red.
68, smooth imitation leather, putty colored interior.
69, smooth imitation leather, most that I have seen have a tan interior, others are putty.
70, 2 different textures, one smooth leather with putty interior, this is also the year that the basketweave vinyl starts, same putty interior.
71 and 72, basketweave vinyl with putty interior.
73 early, same as 71 and 72.
73 mid and later, 2 different bag styles, both in basketweave, one has a string tie, the other has 2 snaps.
regards,
Eric
If Eric's description of the above tool kits by individual year is correct, I am going to have to support his self-proclaimed title of early 911 tool kit "Guru".
PS
Even if he is wrong, it sure sounds good....
Very helpful post.
Yep, my printer is going to go to work! And yeah, you can believe Eric...he does his homework, definitely has his doctorate in Porsche obscurity...
