Thread: Recaro seat fabric

    Question Recaro seat fabric

Hi all, I'm joining this forum as I'm looking urgently for some fabric for the middle section of seats shown in the picture. These are from a 1972 911S.

Does anybody know where I can get this fabric??

    Many thanks in advance!

I don't know but the best place to check is Autos International. If they don't know where to find it then your probably SOL. They're the leading sport seat restorerer.

I've always considered the glass to be half full...that is until I reached middle age and realized that it is actually half empty.

Thanks, any links to go with that?

    Welcome

    Dennis,
Could you tell us what you have for a car. New people are always welcome.
If nothing at the above link, try Southbound Trimmers in England.

www.autosintl.com seems to be down. Is there a link for SOL?

Sure, happy to tell you some info about the thing that lives in my dreams and nightmares over the past months

I guess I had the classical issue of falling in love with a car and buying it before checking it thoroughly. A friend of mine bought a 911T 1971 as a DIY restoration project and I was looking for something similar, but with less work. I camo across this black 911S 1972. The perfect match!

I rated the car on 3 items: body, interior, engine/mechanical part. Body was a bit bubbly here and there and obviously been resprayed somewhere in the past (neat job by the way, all windows removed etc.), interior was 9 out of 10 (been restored as well appearently), engine was guessed as 7 out of 10, as it had passed the MoT (are the Dutch equivalent) and I just drove it home. The price was about 50% of what you would normally pay for a good 1972 S here in The Netherlands.

Well, turned out that the body was more of an issue than expected
Looks like the Titanic here and there. So I got a few panels replaced on the left hand side. And, as my intention was to learn a lot of DIY, after a long decision process I bought a welder and am now imitating 'A car is reborn' in my garage. I really enjoy it, but obviously I have my limitations and I'm not a professional restorer. At the moment the car is almost completely dismanteld, only the engine needs to be dropped yet (we did that at my friends car, quite simple actually). I have no specific deadlines, only budget limitations, otherwise this starts to look too much like work

The engine has it's own story as well, as it turned out that this is not the original engine, but a replacement from the same year (or 1973). According to the previous owner, the original engine had a broken crank due to poor clutch maintenance. So the good news is that I have this replacement engine with tuned MFI, new clutch, chain tensioners, chain, stainless steel heat exachangers and exhaust, and a partial top-end rebuild with less than 10k KM's. We'll see how it survives.....

On the car itself: it's a 1972 911S, with 82 litre tank option, A/C and stainless steel exhaust/heaters. I guess the Recaro's came as standard, but not sure. It has the oil filler on the outside. My intention is to keep it close to original (as it already is), with just a bit of my personal taste (black horngrills and indicator surroundings instead of silver & prototipo steering wheel).

On the seats: the guys that welded the new panels on did not cover the seats and therefore the seats have a few small holes in the fabric

Some pics below. I guess I now have to avoid becoming too concours oriented, given that you guys are quite into that

My used parts wishlist top 4, any European (US = shipping costs ) help would be much appreciated:
    - correct dash, with center speaker grill. The dash I have is splendid, brandnew, but from 1974 I guess (has vents in the middle)
    - left front fender (has been consumed by nature, burp)
    - right rear bumper piece (same here)
    - 1972 oil tank, special shape, as located in front of the rear wheel

Cheers and I look forward to the help I'll be receiving from you guys!

Wowsers...welcome to the forum. You're in deep from the looks of it. Just be sure to photograph everything with a digital camera prior to disassembly or the guys here will be very busy...lol. Looks like the finished product will be a nice one. I'm also a DIY in training. Best of luck with the project.

Sorry Dennis, but that Corduroy is not available from anyone that I have found.....including Auto's, and Southbound in the UK. I have spoken about this with several interior specialists for other vehicles as well,,....and nobody has a good fabric in their books yet that I have found.

    Regards,
    Eric

    corduroy

    dennis and eric,

i have 7 yards of correct black corduroy fabric available if you are interested. i know it is correct for the 67S sport seats, and probably so for the later seats as well. you will need approx. 2 yards for a pair of seat back and bottom cushions. eric, let me know if you want a swatch.
