Show me Your RS Door Panels Plz

    Hi All,

I'm planning on installing RS door panels in Bean, the style with the leather strap and small handle (not RSA).

Anyway, I'd love to see a few examples and have a few questions answered...
    • Where did you purchase them?
    • Can you re-install the original door/panel cap or does the top of the door 'have' to remain bare?
    • Did you miss the armrest on long drives?

    Thanks tons,

    BA

    Hey Brad,
    Great photos on your site!!

    • Where did you purchase them? - Performance Products. They needed a little trimming to fit just right. I unwrapped the edges, trimmed the wood, re-wrapped and painted the back with latex to protect from moisture.
    • Can you re-install the original door/panel cap or does the top of the door 'have' to remain bare? Yes - original cap can be used.
    • Did you miss the armrest on long drives? - No, I like the extra room and usually have my arm on the doorsill anyway. I do sometimes miss the door storage pocket though.

The RSL doors are a great look and the strap is so cool! The biggest drawback is you will need to cut a slot in the door inner sheetmetal for the strap to pass through. I have a pic somewhere of what it should look like (from a real RS Lightweight). Bit of a challenge to fasten the strap to the mechanism since hand clearance is very limited.
Oh yeah... get some extra pull handles - they ARE as flimsy as they look!

Here's pics of the slot (left side) for strap access to mechanism and correct handle mount location:

    RS Panels

    Very cool Jared!

I'm missing where the slot you cut is shown, not having a bare door to compare it to.

Thanks for the compliment. The site and photos are coming along, it happens in spurts and is never quite complete... Thanks for the install info as well.

    Cheers,

    Brad

There's more information than any of us should admit to knowing about these panels on Pelican. Here's one thread that helped me during my installation process:

The original cap can be easily installed - see photos on my website below. The armrest has not been missed. Drove from Michigan to Daytona and back last year with no problems!
