    Going back to EWE, I see a few of the errors. Thats 10.00 I'll never see again.
    Still,,, That is one beautiful car.
    But were there 3 or 4 prototypes? Ludvigsen says 3. Were ALL the prototypes built with the same materials ? Karl isn't clear on that.
    What is the best source for R info ?

    Thanks;
    John

    911R proto #3

    Also if you check out his other pages on R3: http://www.pbase.com/911r/prototype_r3&page=12

    you will see plenty of pics of the car being restored including pelnty of before and after stuff. the cancer had really gotten into the front end and they did an amzing job geting the right bits and welding it back together.

    My project car had far less rust up front, mainly in the rockers and floors, but these are now all new.

    The alumn front fenders are a work of art. Judging by the English Wheel present in the background shots, looks like theu made these by hand. These guys are GOOD.

    This site has provided an invaluable resource for my R project.

    You can probably save the $10 and just downlaod all the pics off Ernie's site.

    Phil;

    Thanks. Now that's 10.00 worth of info.
    I have the older Excellence Was Expected - says according to records three were made initially in the spring of 67.
    Then the series of 20 in late fall.

    But then, I seem to be willing to believe anything.

    The photos of R#3 & R#4 on Ernie Wilberg's site were taken/provided by me.

    There were 4 prototypes & 20 'production' R's.

    How do you know there were 4 prototypes?

    How do you think the mistake re 3 of them was made?

    "been through this a number of times before"

    - I don't see anything in that thread establishing 4 prototypes, just another statement that there were 4. And you say you saw #3 being restored and phtotgraphed #3 and #4 but don't say how you know #4 was actually a 4th protoype. I don't particularly care whether there were 3 or 4, but you might explain how you know...

    i just picked up this mag today at lunch and haven't read through it yet. GREAT PHOTOGRAPHIC COVERAGE! although i really have enjoyed andy's very detailed and excellent documenation. they should have contacted you andy for your pics of the process.
    so rare that an R makes an appearance in the periodicals with that much photography and text that i really appreciate it when it's printed. heck, i bought 3 issues of excellence 107 with the BP R and one keeps a permanent residence in the "office".
    $10 well spent.
