Thread: 1968 911L Brakes-Conversion?

    Question 1968 911L Brakes-Conversion?

    Hello Everyone,

I have a 1968 911L with calipers that are sticking in the rear as if the piston won't release. I want to possibly rebuild them, but was also wondering if it is possible to retro-fit the standard 911 brakes onto a 68 911L because the car as you know has the "S" brakes but finding parts for them is very difficult. I.e. the rotors and caliper parts are nearly impossible to find unless you go thru the dealer. Any ideas on locating parts for this car and/or if it is possible to put on standard 911 brakes without alot of mods would be most appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Joe L.

Search the forums--you can replace the rear rotors with early 944 parts with some slight machining. There was a thread about this awhile back. The calipers should be rebuildable. The problem is the E-brake hat on the later 911 brake rotors won't work with the SWB cars. Apparently, the 944 rotor is almost perfect, just needs to have the outer edge turned down a little. Haven't tried it yet myself, but I will when I need new rotors on the rear of my '67S.
