Smile Flying the Early S Registry flag downunder

We spent this weekend at the Australian Historic Motor Racing Festival at Winton Motor Raceway. Winton is a great track, about 2 hours or so north of Melbourne. I "cut my teeth" at Winton and 2 decades on I still love going there . The Historic Festival is a fabulous weekend with loads of off-track activities; even a double decker bus which tours around the circuit for each race . We were asked to do a trade display for the event, so we loaded Bertha-van with lots of mags, posters, books etc for a change of pace rather than do the full on Porsche-technical thing. It proved to be a lot of fun and we managed to reunite a couple of original photos with historic racing cars to boot .

Entry list and crowd was down a little on last year apparently, but we all had a ball. Hugh H joined us for the weekend too and had "the pleasure" of taking Charlotte and Billy for a couple of parade laps around Winton in his 2.4E. Weather, company, racing, everything was just perfect...

Mike and I even dressed "right" today (pic 1)...and shared some laughs with event co-ordinator Karl and fellow Registry member Hugh (and Charlotte)...and the Bus even did a couple of laps of the circuit!...pics of the really interesting stuff (the cars ) to follow.

    Cheers,

    Lisa

These babies caught our eye...a bit of USA history that's now downunder as the start of a new race class. The rod next to the champ car is the "push car" - note the very sophisticated push bar (lump of covered wood ). We'll be following the resto of the champ car with interest and are really looking forward to seeing it run. The rod was pretty darn gorgeous too.

Track action...the RS (yep it's real) ran faultlessly and led its races from start to finish. This guy does a lot of racing and drives his car to its potential every time out - great to see!

    Parade action...

Really gorgeous Historic Speedway car; Hugh overtakes an original (kinda ) V8 Ford...and the crowd pleaser - a Fiat Bambino complete with operable wind up key!!! As the Bambino drove around the circuit, the yellow key went round and round - it raised huge applause!
