New 911E, batteries, 85 ltr RS Tank. . more

    Hi early 911S ers!

Just got a new CA Oxford Blue '73 911E ("Japan equipment" option). Having sold a very nice '72S to Japan a few years back, I'm getting back into the 911 think having, of course, never left the Porsche fold. I'm very excited about this car, it is realitvely unmolested: has all fuel injection original the throttle bodies were rebuilt 20k ago by Norbert, (God bless), and the engine and 5 speed rebuilt (Garretsons, but only 20k miles ago!) too.So, a couple questions to get started:
    1. It is OK to be here ? After all with a color, different front brakes and a couple other minor details my E is an S!
    2. What is the hot set up for a sealed battery these days? I had 1 Optima in my "S" but I see there are now other options and ones that look to fit better. I'll be selling my brand new, never any acid" "OEM" ones. What are they worth?
    3. I'm pretty sure I picked up an 85 ltr RS plastic tank in the deal. It is plastic, looks OEM (i.e. very nice) and has a '73 date stamp on it. I'll post pics later as I can't do it from here at work.
    4. All input is appreciated. Thanks!

You are definitely in the right place... welcome!

I'm happy with the Odyssey battery I'm using, very high quality, sealed and fits into the battery box on it's side.

    Two Blue and RS Tank?

    Howdy,

One thing I like about my new-to-me 911E is the Oxford Blue color. I'd say it is almost a dead ringer for the Zenith Blue Metallic on my '99 Boxster except not metallic, of course!
And here are three shots of my tank. What be it?

    Thanks!

Well, Gee...I gotta admit I think the E is MUCH prettier than that car that needs prestone. All that said? If you wish to replicate the EXACT same size batteries as the originals in your "mere" 911E? Find a good battery specialty outlet in your area. Sonnenschein, a German battery firm, makes a GEL CELL "A-200 dryfit", #081-90640. No more worries about acid spills or fumes.
Alas, get ready to fork over $500 or so for the pair...

    Water-cooled versus Air-cooled

Newbie Dr 911E will not be engaged in Water-cooled or other Porsche bashing. Well, on second thought, any 924 fans out there?

Anyway, no I think I want to go with 1 battery on the passenger side. I'm mostly a stock type guy but not to the extreme, i.e. I can live with one battery, can't see it anyway!

PS Typos is my original post: should have been (oil) cooler not color and it would be 911 "thing" but 911 think is OK too.

    Dr E:

Welcome to the fold. Another E joins the S crowd. I have felt very comfortable here with my E, and welcome another brother. Of course, after you get comfortable, there will be those (who shall remain unnamed) that will bust your chops, yank your chain, and chuckle in your face, but it is all part of the initiation.

    Viper Green. Rocks!

Thanks Larry. I believe there are fewer "E"s than "S"s. As I said all we need is some Al front Calipers, cooler and a couple tweaks and we've go an "S" anyway.

Man... I love that color. I've never been too into the loud, bright colors of the early 911 era, but the understated, non-metallic colors are soooo sublime. Of course, my car is Irish Green...

I have an Odyssey on it's side too, on the driver's side. I may move it to the other side for weight distribution someday.

Beautiful car, and with that tank, you will be the envy of many.
