PM me before you ever send it there.

    Paul,

I'll give a second endorsement. A member of our local PCA owns the last '73 RS and will be sending the body to Stoddards for repair, painting and finishing. Our local mechanic will be doing the engine and mechanical rebuild however.

Rothsport in Portland, OR, is an exceptional shop.

Rick Cabell in Vermont has built a few early 911 motors, too.

I rebuilt my own, and I'd do it again, and recommend it to others. It was my first rebuild ever. I also came in pretty low on cost, which was my objective. Even if you have to buy all the Porsche tools, as I did, you can come out ahead. Heck, my engine yoke has actually appreciated in value. While my car isn't an S, it is an original '72T (original paint, interior, undercoating, MFI, etc.) My goal wasn't to win a concours event. It was to get this car with a blown engine that I bought back on the road, and drive the snot out of it. I plan to keep it original (aside from bolt-on item here or there), so down the road when I'm done with it, a purist can do their thing.

During my rebuild, I read over alot of tips from Henry Schmidt (Supertec). There's alot of things you won't find in the factory manuals, or Wayne's book that Henry just knows. If I was working on a larger budget, I wouldn't hesistate for a second to give it to Henry.

On the other side, I now have more knowledge about how my car works than I could ever have. No book, or internet forum could replace the knowledge my rebuild gave me.

I think Stoddard only did some minor mechanical work to TKO's car. They did do new paint and it is beautiful.

You are right Curt. Stoddard only did the exterior work for me and they subcontracted out the headliner while all the glass was out.

I know they used to have engine rebuilder years ago that came highly reccommended from an 'oldtimer' in the local PCA back in Michigan. Don't know if he is still there or not.

    Cheers,

I'll second Rick Cabell at Eurotech in Burlington, Vermont. Very experienced, very good, and very reasonable...and like all the good ones, very busy.

The first shot is Rick's work, the 2nd is Tom's.

Tom is no other than Tom Woodford, of Rainbow California. Sorry I did not mention it in previous post

Ah yes Eade, a proper '68 S 2 liter by Rick and a 3.6 "motherfather" of a beast for the RSR by the accomplished Mr. Woodford. Both worthy of a bigass grin.

I can't wait to see those cars side by each. Great colors.
