    How wide can you go for SWB cars? (tires)

    I'm in the process of moving from a 2.0S motor in my SWB '67 to a built out 2.7 motor. The new motor makes a LOT more power and torque so I want to improve my cars ability to put power to the ground by moving to larger tires. The PO put 195/60's on there right on a reproduction fuchs wheel. I want to go as wide as possible, so my question is this:

    How wide can you go on a SWB car?

    My mechanic says if I run a few more degrees of rear camber I can fit 215's on the back. Does anyone have suggestions? I'm planning on running a 185/70 on a 15x6 fuchs on the front with 215/60 on 16x7 on the rear. Does anyone have experience running this setup?

    Not running 16's, but I am running 7 x 15 911R wheels on the rear....fender lips are rolled, and I've got 225/50's on wheels, spring plate bolts needed to be shaved down.

    regards,

    Nick;

    That will be quite a diff front to back. Why not fit a little wider fronts as well ?
    What's the theory there ?

    Question Difference in front to back

    I was entertaining the idea of running the 185's on the front and the 215's on the rear since those were the factory sizes for Carrera 2.7's, 3.0's and 930s from '73-'77. I imagine that a wider front tire would delete some of the understeer.

    How wide can you on the fronts without having to dial in more camber?

    Those later cars all have the longer wheel base.
    I was thinking, with that much power on the shorter wheel base , wouldn't it be better to have more rubber up front to help balance and control the livlier back end ?
    I don't know that that is the way to go, I am asking.

    I didn't mean more rubber in the front than in the back - just more than 185 with 215's or 225's.

    But then I don't even understand me.

    That's kind of an odd combination--I don't think you're going to find many people who have run those sizes on a SWB car. I don't quite understand the 16s on the rear w/ 15s on the front. What are you trying to accomplish with that? If your goal is to fit as much rubber as possible in the rear, I don't think you could do much better than Eric's setup, w/ a 225/50-15, and you need a custom offset 7" rim to do it. I would pair that up with 205/60-15s on 6s in the front and you would have a well-balanced setup.
