    Heater control lights?

A PO removed some of the wires to the lights behind my heater control panel (on a '73S Targa). How are the four lights behind the panel supposed to work? Do all four (the lights behind the red and blue squares in the upper two corners, as well as the lights behind the words in the bottom two corners) come on when you turn on the lights, or do the two lights in the upper corners come on when the fan/heater is turned on?

IIRC, the red one comes on with the fan. I have mine out right now, or I'd go check it for you. But, that leaves me wondering about the blue one. If anything, the blue should come on when you open the hood vent.

Don't know which one, but one light illuminates on the heater control panel when you turn on the optional auxilliary gas heater.

I haven't got a gas heater. It would make sense that the blue would light up when the fan is on and the red when the defrost is on, but I can't seem to make the relevant wiring work. I may just wire it so that they both light up with the dash illumination.

Along the same lines, can anyone identify this light bulb holder? I assume this is also part of the ventilation control lighting??

That's the light for the ash tray. The plastic ring around the hole for the light slips into a hole in the bracket above the ash tray and the light shines down into the ash tray when the dash lights are on.

That makes sense, thanks. I'm going to go get it hooked up properly. Never open the ash tray so I never thought of that.

jayzoll, the light holder did go back into place as you said but I can see how it could easily come out again. It's just got that small rubber lip to keep it
in place and any tugging on the wiring from the back of the dash could pull it out again. Anyway, it's back in now and I'm glad to know where it goes.
I'll be careful moving those wires in the future.
