    looking at 1977 911 targa

    I am asking for tips and advice regarding this car. Auto has 78k....a rebuilt 1974 engine from 'Born to be fast" out of San Fran Cisco. There are apparently no problems with the studs pulling from this reworked engine. The car seems to be in good shape. I am driving it on Thur. Owner has spent a lot of money on the car. He bought it 4 yrs. ago for $14k. He is asking $8,800.00. Anything I should know? I do not know much about Porsche's. thanks.

    Sounds like a fun car for cheap $. The danger here is potentially having to put more $ into the car than it is worth to fix shoddy mechanical work down the road. Get a good pre-purchase inspection from someone not affiliated with B2BF(kd) - make sure the motor/trans gets a clean bill of health and no evidence of accidents. '77s were galvanized, so rust isn't as big an issue as with an early car (but still check thoroughly).

    Based on all I've heard of the seller (no first hand experience) , I would be suspect of everything they say - be careful, especially with deposits!

    BTW - Just a bit biased, but I'd be looking for a nice 1973.5 T CIS longhood in that price range.
    Although they have gone up quite a bit in the past year (mid teens).
