Brake Plating Detail. Warning: Fussy Details Inside.

I started assembling my rear brakes last night and a friend warned me that the backing plate that supports all of the emergency brake mechanism is to be gold cadmium plated not the black paint that I currently have.

Could anyone please let me know what would be the correct finish for these parts on a 1970 911S?

I know the dust shields are to be plated.

    Thanks in advance.

I just took my front suspension apart last night on my '70S coupe. Backing plates were CAD plated. So was the anti-roll bar linkage / lever / droplink. Have not looked real close at the rear yet, but I bet it too was CAD plated. The car seemed to be in pretty good shape, especially since all the bolts I removed still had the CAD plating on them too.

I have no intention of re-CAD plating anything on my car, since I intend to actually use it as a more or less daily car (when it doesn't rain). So I am going to paint mine black.

Also, even though my car is supposed to have the MFI as original, I just can't justify putting it back on (it had been converted to Webers at some point in its life). I've been researching the Megasquirt electronic injection and using the original mag stacks on top of either Suzuki (4 cylinder) or Triumph (3 cylinder) motorcycle throttle bodies.

    Good luck with your car.

    Thanks,

I have took my car completely apart and have replated ever possible part.
The rear brakes were a quite filthy so I could not determine what the backing plates were to be. It was a time consuming effort but damn is it satisfying having so many of the parts coming back looking like new.

I used a mixture of Zinc and Cadmium plating.

Cadmium has some health and environmental risks associated with it but is much cheaper and easier.

I used zinc for the hood and bonnet latches as well as some of the MFI parts.
Things that get touched the most.

Looks like i have another batch to do.

    Thanks,
