Thread: Pics of 917 shift knob?

    Pics of 917 shift knob?

Does anyone have some close up detail shots of an original 917 shift knob?

I heard they were balsa wood and aluminum layered together.

    Thanks.

Someone over on Pelican made a batch a while back, maybe someone can chime in with a name. Looks like a fun project also to make your own if you have access to lathe. From what I know there was no aluminum layers just layers of balsa. The aluminum part maybe how it attaches.

WOW!! I have never really seen a picture of the interior of a 917K, but your feet are awfully close to the front of the car and your feet are like touching the ground!!!!!!! Unbelievable car!

Yeh - I can barely fit in mine. Lousy thing to park at the supermarket too & can barely handle a full shopping trip.

there are a couple of good closeups on Carl Thompson's site which details the building up of a 917 from a bare chassis with stacks of pics - a must see if you have not seen it already

this is the link to the page with the pics of the gear shift knob but the rest of the site is just amazing - especially the detailed shots of building the 917 engine and the building of the 908 gearbox
