Help guys - 1972 engine bay colour etc

    Guys,

I've got brain fade and need some definitive help here...I'm pretty sure (and so are some of the Aussie guys) that in 1972 the "underwear" was painted as follows: under the bonnet - car paint colour, under the guards - black, engine bay - black. Are we right? It's Friday arvo and my brain is overloaded . Car is off to the paint shop tomorrow and I want to confirm instructions. Are we right or are we wrong???

    Thanks fellas!!!

    Cheers,
    Lisa

    Lisa,
My 1972 911E is painted as you have described. It appears to be all original and I have been told that it is correct.

    Thanks Kevin,

It was a long day and for the life of me I couldn't remember whether the change to paint colour for the engine bay occurred in '72 or '73...made a couple of calls to the Melb. boys (one was pretty certain) and then thought I should call on "the troops" for some help

    Much appreciated!

    Cheers,

The engine bay was painted body color then black paint was sprayed on top of that in '72. The resulting appearance is black with a bit of body color showing thru in places.

    Randy,

That sounds right to me...we have a customer's fairly original 2.4T that's off for a tidy-up and it's a bit rough in the engine bay. You can definitely see the condor green through the black, and I figured that what you've told me was the case but like I said it was a LONG day - THANKS!

    Cheers,

Lisa, the flecks of body color showing through make me suspect that the engine bay black was brushed in, rather than sprayed. Here's a pic of my '72, original except for the added carrera tensioners & RS dizzy...

Whoops...trying again. Certainly not as exciting as some other engines pictured here...but original it is...

    Paul,

Lisa probably won't respond right away... it's past 2:00 am tomorrow down there...

I just put my little cell phone 'world clock' on Sydney time (only Aussie option) to keep track of our down under lads and ladies...
