    VIN plate Rivets

Where can I find the rivets for the VIN plate (on a 1973.5) so it will look original after the plate is removed for painting?

    Hmmm

I'm not sure that you should remove that. I'd be suspicious if I was buying a car that had it's VIN plate removed. Just my opinion.

Can't your shop just mask it while it is being painted?

"The 1970-to-1971 2.2-liter S with mechanical fuel injection is the absolute top choice. These 2.2 S engines are short-stroke, high-compression powerhouses without substantial emissions-control clutter, and they have a powerband with gobs of high-rpm torque. With their mechanical fuel injection still intact, they make a spine-tingling shriek as they shoot to redline."

    Vin Plate Rivets

I will feel the same : Mask the VIN Plate for painting and not removing those rivets . That will be a spot for concourse events or a potential buyer to look at.

Thx for the advice. I am going to remove the plate.

I'd like to know where I can get the rivets -- if anybody knows that.

Randy, I wish I could help with the rivets. Call John Willhoit and see what he says.

IMO, if done correctly, the is nothing negative about removing the VIN plate.

I just removed the VIN on my 68. I have multiple photos to document this so if someone at some time questioned the removal though...

Can someone post a picture of a VIN plate with original rivets? My restorer removed my VIN plate and riveted it back in place. It looks fine to me, but I don't remember what the original rivets look like.

    Thanks!

    Here's the reply:

You can buy the rivets from Stoddard Imported Cars 800 8421414...or you can
    try International Mercantile 800 3560012.
