    My car won't start!!! Anyone?

I have a 1972 911 2.4L Carb and very nice car... It has been sitting for a year and a half, and I just bought a new battery and the car won't start.
    It has points.
There is spark from the Ignition coil to the distributor, but no sprk at the plug.. So it has to be the Dist.

I hear the pump going like mad... It's not fuel.

What should I look for? How do I gap the points? What is the point gap?
    Where is the condensor/capacitator?

Any help please!!!. I need all your input.

I'd also make sure the carb bowls aren't filled with varnish after you get the spark issue fixed.

you will need to get rid of all the fuel in it and put fresh fuel in. the octane (and ability to burn) diminishes quite quickly over time. It is likely the fuel is no longer sufficiently combustable to fire
if you only had a small amount of fuel in the tank and a fuel stabiliser you might get away with filling it up but it would be better to drain it

( i dont know how many of you have the same problem with a lawnmower - I do regularly if it is left unused for as little as 6 months. The fuel no longer works. The first time I spent a long time going thru all the usual suspects and eventually to a shop to service it. Turned out all it needed was fresh fuel)

I would also remove the tank and have it cleaned and possibly lined as well. Carbs HATE dirt!

Thank you guys for all your help!!

    And those sites are awesome

So you think the gas could be that bad? I had a full tank with fuel stabil before I stored it...

I check the spark and no spark at the plug... There is good spark from the coil to the Distributor... Is there a list of how to gap the points? Like a point gap measurement like 0.15...
Maybe I should buy an electronic Ignition and get it over with.. LOL

Now I thought there was a capacitator of condensor somewhere? Still can't find it... Sorry I must be blind or something... LOL

Thank you all for your responses... I feel better now that atleast I have some good support out there now.. Thank goodness for this site!!

Good time to get rid of the points and put a pertronix ignitor in there.

It could be the points though. If you have the original Marelli dist., your points should be at .4mm and dwell 40 +/- 3 If it is a converted Bosch: points .3mm and dwell 38 +/- 3 You do not have a condensor as you have a CD system which could be the fault as well.

All in all its a pretty simple system though...if the spark is getting to the cap, sounds like possibly a rotor or cap failure...condensation in the cap??? Do you see any arcing marks in there?

As far as the tank...I have never seen an early car that did not have some rust in the tank. I ALWAYS remove the tank and have them cleaned and lined when I get a new/old car --Especially a carburated one. Also, having a fuel filter before each carb as well as the original one is a good idea. Dont use the cheap plastic ones though...get the metal bodied ones.
