Amazing what a little Windex will do....

...to clean up a red shroud. It goes from this.

    To this.

Not really. This is a creation from Damon at Series 900, along with scavanged parts from the old shroud.

Here it is on a trial fit atop the 2.2 engine rebuild.

Hmmm... I wonder what that case that is sitting under that bench in the background?

Oh it is an RS case and it happens to be the case from RS 1590, the last one.

Oh, BTW those old, crusty upper valve covers are not staying. We have a set of black powder coated ones that will be going on for the final assembly.

Windex took all of the paint off the grey tunnel?

Yeah amazing isn't it, but I used the extra strength kind.

Just kidding really. The top beat up, painted red, shroud was the original shroud for my 2.2L Targa and as you can see it was unusable. So I bought a reproduction shroud and gray duct from Damon @ Series 900. He has been making them up for a little while, but one our fellow BBS members sent him a NOS 2.0L red shroud for a new mold and color match. The color of the new shroud is really great, very bright red as it should be.

Several differences that show up on the reproductions can be seen on the underside. There is no gel coat on underside of the new shroud and the duct is made from fiber glass with gel coat, not plastic as the original was. Other than that it looks very original I think.

    Brian,

I am in need of a new shroud. I take it that you would recommend one of these? Do you have contact info for me?

    Thanks much,
    Tom

    RS Case

    Hi Brain,

Tell the story behind that RS 1590 case, or haven't you already...Are you going to use it?

    Tom,

Yeah I am pleased with the quality. It came in two seperate pieces so I had to drill the holes and rivet the gray duct, metal deflector and the little metal guide on myself which was no bid deal. Damon can be reached at series900@nhvt.net

    Cees,

That is not my case. It is at my mechanics shop and belongs to friend of his who purchased RS 1590 out of Europe several years ago. I have not seen the rest of the car, but it will be a major restoration effort to bring it back to life. It was an old, used up race car, in pieces when he bought it. I understand the owner has found many of the parts neccessary to restore it. When he does get started on it I hope to get some photos along the way to share with everyone.
