67S Tire choices (or lack of)

My Name is Tom Fender and I've just taken delivery of Howard Lasarus's slate grey '67S. This is my first SWB car and certainly the first 911 I've driven with 165 15 rubber. I'm absolutely committed to keeping the 4.5's on this car but would like to find a higher performance tire. The car currently has a set of "p" rated Dunlops with very soft sidewalls. I've noticed that Coker Tire sells the old Michelin XAS which is HR rated. My dad had these on his Jag back in the 70's and thought they were great, but I'm wondering if there are other choices. Thanks

Vredestein http://www.vredestein.com/ makes a 165HR15 tire called the "Sprint Classic" but I haven't seen this particular tire offered for sale in the US. You could contact the US distributor.

Another possibility is to get a second set of wheels, but the choices of 195/65VR15 tires is also dwindling.

By the way, my '65 Porsche 911 has S rated Dunlop SP21 165R15s and V rated Continental 195/65VR15s. Neither of these tires is available today.

You should fit V rated tyres to a 911S, H rated tyres have a max speed rating of 130 mph.

I've got a few early 911's with the Vredestein H tires. The sprint classic. Actually they ride and look very well, good price also about $90 ea. I'm pretty sure they have the 165x15's. That would be a good choice for the 4.5's.

The Vred Sprint Classic is available in Canada at least. Not sure if they ship south:
