A tough end to Targa Tassie

The last day (Stage 5) saw unbelievably bad weather demonstrate the value of 4WD over 2WD with the Nissan GTR of local driver White finally claiming victory over Jim Richards in his GT2 Porsche.

Imagine how hard it is to choose a set of tyres that have to last 5 days of intense competition when you end up with snow and ice on the last day !!

Obvioulsy Tony Quinn in his 996 Turbo didnt take notice of this road sign too !

just got back - absolutely buggered but stoked with our results:

    1. gold targa trophy/plate (from our 1st 3 attempts)
    2. 15th outright (we were aiming for top 30)
    3. not a single scratch on the car (only service work was one brake bleed after finishing the sideling with smoking rotors...)

full report to follow later in the week with pics

the bad news however is our travelling buddies pretty much destroyed their 1 week old 3.2 MFI RSR replica...

    some initial thoughts:

day 5 was treacherous to say the least (15 cars out)

we had a very very near miss on some ice at queenstown

they ran a snow plough over mt arrowsmith (50km stage) that morning...

one high point was catching and passing a 4wd turbo celica - in the wet!

Thumbs up Gold Targa Plate !

    Hey Ryan,

well done on the Gold plate. those are not easy to earn ! and cost a few $$$$ too !!

15th outright in such a hard fought rally as Targa Tas. is an outstanding result in anyones language. especially when you see what competition is out there incuding plenty of 4WD turbo rockets as well as some serious late model Porsche stuff (GT3's and 2's). Guys on this board should check out the link I have given earlier and look at the results to fully apreciate your ability as a driver and your cars setup to understand what 15th outright really means.

I cant wait to see more pics and read the story. Who were the guys in the RSR replica ?? what happened and where ? Anyone hurt ?

Congrats again and I'll post something on the TYP901 board as well unless oyu beat me to it.

    Congratulations

Congratulations from Western Australia, Ryan! What a fantastic result for you both. To get that high in the outright stakes is a mighty achievement. And to do it in that weather, in Tasmania, against the guns!!

thanks again guys - we are really thrilled.

our 15th spot was in classic (historic, classic and modern are run as separate events)

classic had 111 entries this year - and unfortunately 26 DNF's!

simon - i think you know my navigator: simon winter. he punts a mean 3.4 930 (blue with ruf bumpers/wheels etc) around perth's lovely streets and does some club events. he did an awesome job on the notes.
    Cheers, Ryan
